From the Desk of Karen Reimer
Karen graduated from the University of Manitoba (U of M), School of Medical Rehabilitation in Physical Therapy in 1995.
Early in her career, she developed a special interest in vestibular disorders. This led her to the USA. for training from leading vestibular researchers, such as Dr. S. Herdman, Dr. S. Whitney, Dr. R. Tusa, Dr. F. Horak, and others.
A desire to further pursue research in vestibular disorders led Karen to the Master of Science (Rehabilitation) degree.
Her research was an innovative physiotherapy treatment protocol for those suffering peripheral vestibular disorders.
While maintaining her busy private practice and consuting as the (vestibular) physiotherapist at the Pan Am Concussion Program, Karen teaches in the Master of Physical Therapy program in the College of Rehabilitation Sciences at the U of M.
Karen also teaches competency-based courses for physiotherapists who desire to increase their knowledge and skills in treating those with vestibular disorders. In 2016, she developed Fundamentals of Vestibular Rehabilitation: A Competency-Based Course and teaches throughout Canada. In addition, an advanced skills course entitled, Vestibular Rehabilitation: Beyond the Fundamentals was developed for those who have completed a competency-based vestibular training course and have been practicing for a minimum of one year.
Karen has a passion for vestibular physiotherapy. So, in addition to seeing patients, teaching, and offering presentations, she mentors other vestibular trained physiotherapists.
